Boys Over Flowers : Part 2

This series is leaving Netflix so if you ever want to watch the absolutely addictive series that started it all, go catch it.

Spoiler filled link of the previous post here

Ze Olde SPOILER ALERT/ Disclaimer:

This post and the upcoming ones will contain SPOILERS. If you want to watch this series, please do so and then read the article.

This post might offend some people. Please don't read it if you are the sort that does get offended. I use the word asshole in this post, so if you are sensitive to that, you shouldn't read that part either

Ok, so we'd wrapped up the series really well in the last post, however there are so many tiny details / episodes that ARE STILL LIVING IN MY HEAD RENT FREE , and I'm hoping writing here is like a Pensieve from Harry Potter , where you conveniently store these details in a box and never think about / realize you ever had them (WHO am I kidding, even if I forget who are the members in my own family, I shall never forget irrelevant details in a k drama that I watched a million years ago)

Here goes nothing:

  1. Incident 1:
    • Browny is a melancholic loner who plays the violin, out in the snow in the middle of the school forest thing , because he is a true artist. This is the first time Weed encounters a guy in her life (I think) and is so awestruck by how awesome he is.
    • (Browny then proceeds to play this exact tune each time he holds his violin, and this becomes his theme song in Boys Over Flowers. The actor releases a full version of this song and skyrockets to fame, and is never seen again , except for a few other k drama romances where he is also the asshole)
    • Weed goes out of her way to meet and talk to Browny, who cannot be bothered to nod his head or y'know react in a remotely human way while interacting with her
    • Browny has a HUGE crush on a supermodel lady who was F4's childhood friend
      • Weed is sad about this
      • Browny only opens his mouth to ask about how to make pancakes to Weed (so that he can make it for his supermodel girl)
      • Browny is kinda abusive and feels unmanly that his supermodel girlfriend is more popular than him
      • Kinda made me root for Curly, who is a whole other level of abusive
      • Supermodel gf is really really nice to Weed. She helps her out and puts the bullies in their place. Not ONE of these flowery jokers could do what she did in the first 15 minutes of 1 episode
      • I think supermodel gf dated Browny because she felt bad for him (his parents died in a car crash when he was a young child of ... I think 4, still wearing his white 3 piece suits and playing with a dumb toy his father made him)
      • Browny drops her like a hot potato when he realizes he is like an extra violin holding , pancake making appendage who is not able to "protect" her from the big bad world
      • Browny also tries to kiss a photo of supermodel gf at the bus terminal which our dumb TumbleWeed decides to clean for him, so that he can make out with the picture hygienically. Sigh
  2. Curly & Weed's meet cute:
    • Curly is being an absolutely horrible bully, thinking Weed is gonna come crawling to him to lick his shoes
    • Weed instead lands a roundhouse kick, and the romance begins!!!!!!
    • Curly is quite emotionally stunted (even more than Browny), he thinks this is the way women express love
    • His lady-killer friends hanging out with multiple women, many girls in school expressing their interest in Curly is just bounces off his head
      • This is shown to be a pathological thing, Curly was awful to Weed's "friend" ever since they were little chubby children
      • I think it is a korean thing to be SO OBSESSED with the way one looks , these are children who cannot hold a crayon right and they're already thinking about looks and marriage
    • Curly abducts Weed and gives her an involuntary makeover making her hate him more
    • Curly abducts Weed and her friend and take her to a fancy shmancy vacation , complete with an amazing shopping trip at a fancy boutique (he literally buys her an entire mountain of pretty clothes and shoes and hats and shades), a private helicopter tour of an island where he shows her the "heart" (a naturally <3 shaped structure) while casually mentioning the island is his, a wonderful over waters cottage , and extremely fancy private chef cooked meals for the two
      • OMG I LOVED THIS EPISODE!! THIS WAS THE NICEST Curly HAS BEEN IN THE ENTIRE SERIES
      • Of course he then finds that Weed is crushing on Browny all this time, and is heart broken. We all secretly root for Curly ! Private islands for the win!
  3. The Fiance:
    • Curly gets a fiance because mommy wants more money for the Company
    • He is perfectly happy to string Weed along, while fiance is totally smitten with the Tall and Handsome Curly
    • Fiance lady is super super nice to Weed. She thinks they are all friends. Everyone acts like they cant speak whenever she is around.
    • Thankfully Curly's other friends are rightfully offended by this god-awful behavior , but do they do anything like I dunno calling him out / stop being friends with him? NOOOOO He's Shinhwa grupps heir, they can't offend him like that!
    • Fiance makes a graceful exit when she finds out JJ meant Weed and Curly all along ( a whole episode dedicated to custom jewellery, where Weed keeps losing her pretty necklace, and finding a similar JJ necklace on the fiance's neck and then being sad and crying etc etc)
  4. The "Friend":
    • This lady is the worst, she is initially friends with Weed, but then realizes the "love of her life" Curly (seriously what is it with Indian and K dramas being obsessed with the "flashback to when we were kids" trope?) is interested in the poverty stricken Weed
    • So instead of working through her jealousy/ outright calling out for a sis-code or something, she decides to get Weed drunk and leaves her to be taken advantage of by some rando in the pub.
    • Only, it is not a rando, but a paid actor who takes incriminating pictures of Weed and then she ends up being slut shamed in school
    • Weed's bullying gets WORSE, and this two faced snake pretends to sympathize
    • FINALLY, Curly's friends dig up the truth and Curly realizes the error of his ways and they corner her friend, who runs off abroad where her insecurities make her get more plastic surgery
  5. The poor ability of EVERY K-drama female lead to hold alcohol
    • This trope is alive EVEN Today
    • The female lead gets drunk, and meanders through the world
    • The male lead finds her in the drunk state and being a gentleman , carries her home/ listens to her feelings/ is forced into a kiss / makeout sesh due to said drunkenness
    • Male lead falls for female lead harder, because nothing can be more romantic than drunken vomiting / unintended heart spill/ drunk breath on a girl
    • Why are ALL OF THEM AFFLICTED WITH THE SAME TROPE? WHY CANT EVEN ONE HOLD HER ALCOHOL?
  6. Potter guy falls for Weed's friend
    • Weed's friend is there. For plot reasons, and they forcefully make Potter guy a complicated manchild who has daddy issues , avoid commitment.
    • Weed's friend however never lets go , so that is a whole other abusive thing going on. She even picks up Pottery to appeal to this guy LOL
  7. The Final GF:
    • A random girl at a hospital decides to make an amnesiac bloke her Oppa.
    • I mean , why ??????? Girl why do all of you have to throw yourselves at the most emotionally unstable people possible?
    • Curly, who has had no problems being the meanest person in the room, is suddenly very nice to this lady.
    • It takes a jump in a swimming pool for him to remember that he is in fact not leaving to  USA with a rando , he is going by himself
Anyways, it's pretty late, so I will end here.
I could probably write a blow by blow analysis of each episode with numbering etc, but I think you and I both know I might come back to this series again in a year or so , and find something else absolutely absurd and rant about it

Until next time,
DragonRider
