Apocalyptic Apprehensions

 Hi!

Let's begin our cheery weekend by listing out the horrors we are experiencing at the moment.

Perhaps the largest one that immediately affects our lives is the Coronavirus. I am sure plenty of us hear a lot about it from EVERYWHERE so I am just going to stop discussing the pandemic right here. (You might have higher chances of reinfection which might result in your eventual demise.)

The next one would be climate change. Sea levels are rising rapidly ( rapidly for the Earth atleast). Islands will soon disappear. It is going to get hotter owing to our unerring instinct of destroying anything good we touch. It also happens that the Golden ages of good cool weather is coming to an end. The ice-age is ending.

What else do I say? There's a general feeling of anxiety and all kinds of tensions among humans is at an all time high. You can be segregated based on the colour of your skin, the tone of your voice, the thoughts in your head, the words that you speak, the things you believe in, the Gods you pray to - anything seems to be fair game.

And while we are caught up in that, we ignore our forests burning, children starving, animals dying.

Isn't this then the beginning of the Apocalypse of Legends? Isn't this what every Hollywood disaster movie tries to squeeze into 120 minutes of showtime? Sure, it isn't sudden, and to us our sins don't seem worthy of an Apocalypse. Like the frogs in a pot of water set to boil, we await our inevitable fate , waiting to be cooked.

We cling to desperate thread of normalcy just because we can. We can afford it right now. Instead of panicking like headless chicken, we scream internally and hope someone will listen. Instead of changing our ways and making the most of our years left, we spin away in the eternal hamster wheel of human civilization or whatever it is that we are living in right now. We ignore our thoughts and rush towards the next thing on our checklists of things to do in the hopes that it all works out in the end.

What are we doing this for? What are we seeking? If the world were to end suddenly (instead of the glacial pace it's heading to right now) would we still worry about work, etiquette and what to cook or buy next? or will we kick back and look around us? perhaps take a stroll around a few trees? listen (and really listen) to the birds? find better air to breathe in and slow down the pace of life?

I wonder how things will turn out.

Until next time,
DragonRider
