Ambrosia

Once upon a time, in a far away land,

The one made of hate, where everyone is sad

There lived a rat, under a rock, who lived under a tree

The rat was smug, sly - it squeaked - How I wish I were free!

And once upon a time, in this faraway land,

Where lies delighted, and there wasn't shade to stand

There came gleaming a ray of light so pure

The Moons couldn't stand it, they had to leave for sure

The ray of light, though, didn't really mind

It loved everything around, it loved to be kind

And one fine day it chanced upon the tree

It found the rat there sighing - How I wish I were free!

This sunny beam got right to work,

Turned to a flower - so pretty, it hurt to look!

The rat was awestruck, it seemed to finally see,

From under its rock, that lived under a tree

How lovely the flower was, how wondrous and sweet

This is just what it needed, t'was a perfect treat!

But the rat, being a rat, didn't really know

Pretty flowers need light and happiness too

It dragged it inside to its dark dark cave

And decided to feast on it's lovely face

The little ball of sunshine instead of trying to hide

Wanted to help the rat, it turned to Nectar raw and sublime

The rat was delighted, but it was too far gone

You see, the rat was a dark, evil being deep down

Consume the ray it would,  plunging the world into the dark,

Goodness and joy were hard to find, deep in it's cold heart

Our little drop of nectar was kind, and also wise,

It slipped away in an instant, it shone very bright

It still wanted to help, but what can one do?

Somethings are beyond repair, they were done, they were through

Follow me, it tried again -  I know you want to be free

But the rat hissed, frightened, it would stay by its tree

Turn away from the warmth, from the bright blue skies

It should have known better, all it believed were the lies

Oh it knew deep down, knew what it had cost

Its wish could have come true, and now all was lost

I am Unworthy, it thought shaking its pathetic head

and the Ambrosia whisked away to join the Gods instead
